Lifelong Learning – A Key To Soul Success?

Lifelong Learning – A Key To Soul Success?

A hand grasps a pen and is hovering above a journal ready to write.

This blog is part of a series exploring collaboration, communication and connection.  I asked ChatGPT what the advantages of lifelong learning are and was pretty impressed with what it gave me.

I think that learning and staying open to learning is a state that allows for more of our soul to be present in life.  Why?  Because it puts us in a child-like state of wonder that’s closer to the soul’s way of being.

Below are ChatGPT’s more “grown-up” ideas and I’ll share my extra idea afterwards…

From ChatGPT

“There are numerous benefits to lifelong learning. Here are some of the most significant ones:

  1. Career advancement: Lifelong learning allows individuals to stay current with industry trends, technology, and best practices, which can help them advance in their careers and secure better job opportunities.

  2. Personal growth: Learning new things can help individuals expand their knowledge, improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and develop a broader perspective on the world.

  3. Improved cognitive function: Lifelong learning can help keep the brain active and healthy, which may lower the risk of cognitive decline and improve memory and mental agility.

  4. Increased creativity: Exposure to new ideas and perspectives can stimulate creativity and innovation.

  5. Improved social connections: Participating in learning activities can provide opportunities to meet new people and develop social connections.

  6. Personal fulfillment: Lifelong learning can provide a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction as individuals acquire new skills and knowledge.

  7. Enhanced adaptability: Learning new things can help individuals become more adaptable and resilient in the face of change and uncertainty.

Overall, lifelong learning can lead to a more fulfilling and successful life, both personally and professionally.”

Not bad, right?  It sells lifelong learning pretty well.  Now it just so happens that the full title of the teaching qualification I have is a “Professional Graduate Certificate in Education in the Lifelong Learning Sector”.  And I LOVE the “lifelong learning” part of it.

What I would add to ChatGPT’s take is that it nurtures curiosity and curiosity is a quality that softens criticisms and helps to strengthen relationships.  Most of us have an inner critic and the inner critic can shut down those more vulnerable child-like qualities in us.   Generally if you’re being curious, you’re not being critical and your inner child parts can thrive – giving your soul space to come out and play.

What do you think?  Is lifelong learning important to you?  Do you think it draws out your inner child?
